I slowly but surely check projects from my pace for the walk -in wardrobe. Yesterday I sanded the patched areas on the ceiling drying, prepared the ceiling, installed three of the four wardrobe sticks and painted the ceiling.
I will start with the cabinet rods. I absolutely love what these matt gold rods look against the blue cupboards!
The installation of these bars was pretty easy. They came with these assembly clamps, which have these 5 -mm pins on the back, and they are then held in the middle with a screw in the middle. (Please excuse my rough hands. I always say that you should never trust someone who claims to be a handyman and have clean hands and perfect fingernails. )
To install these brackets with the pens, I marked where I wanted them to go into the cupboards.
But here is my first tip. If you install several elements, all of which have to be installed at the same height/distance instead of using your tape measure to mark and measure the placement for each one individually, cut out scrap pieces for this process. I wanted all of my clips to be 8.5 inches from the back of the cupboards and 1.75 inches from the bracket to get the shelf over it. So I cut two pieces of scrap wood. I cut the first to 8.5 inches and used to quickly mark the vertical line for my brackets …
And then I cut another piece of scrapwood to 1.75 inches to quickly mark the distance from the shelf clamp.
In this way, I don’t have to count on my accuracy when using a measuring tape for each brand, which is good because I sometimes make mistakes in my measurements. This is a foolproof way of doing all measurements correctly, and it is so much faster.
And here is my second tip. If you have to drill holes for something like these fastening clips with pins, and these holes have to be in very precise areas, do not try to measure and mark this distance with a tape measure. Simply use something like color or lipstick on the back of the pens and press it onto the wall or closet, where you have to drill the holes. For this I used the darkest lipstick that I have (and rarely wear).
And then I put the upper pen up to the point where my two points crossed and put the lower pen on the vertical line, and then I knew exactly where I had to drill the holes. No guess. No measurement with a measuring tape and in the hope that I did the measurements exactly.
Everyone fit perfectly because the markings came directly from the pencils on the bracket.
So I pushed this bracket very easily into these perfectly distributed holes, and then I could secure it with the screw that was supplied with the clip.
I am concerned with taking out the assumptions of processes that I have to repeat again and again and find ways to repeat these processes that are not dependent on me by marking a tape measure with every individual placement. And that makes the process so much faster.
The good news is that this process was very smooth. I installed the brackets for all four poles and cut three of the four poles and on the spot.
The bad news is that there was no such foolproof method for cutting the beams. Everyone was a slightly different measurement, so I had to measure, mark and cut them individually. And in the very last I managed to cut it a centimeter too short.
No problem. I can just order a new one, right? Incorrect. They are no longer in stock that I need. *Sigh* Of course they are. I’m so frustrated by myself. Measure twice, cut it once, right? I didn’t do that and now I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do. I can’t find a way to contact the seller at Amazon to see when or whether you will have more, so I may have to add it to another brand. I can’t believe that I did it. I had to cut a total of six poles for this cupboard, and I managed to do five of them right and get myself messed up with the last one.
But I had to get it out of my mind and not obsessed it because I had to go forward in this room. I was determined to finish the blanket completely before I went to bed last night. And I did it! As I mentioned in an earlier contribution, I decided to color this room with the Sherwin Williams bust -in breeze that I used on the cupboards. So everything apart from the wallpaper areas and the floor is the same color.
When I went to bed last night, the blanket of the second layer of paint was still completely wet. But that’s how it looked at this morning after everything was dry.
I used a satin gloss on the cupboards and flat on the ceiling.
It is actually difficult to say that the ceiling is blue unless you can see it next to the white walls.
But I’m really proud of how it turned out. Drywall is the least favorite activity and I am not great in it. When I had to make repairs on the ceiling, I really tried to take time and not hurry through this process so that I could make it as smooth as possible. A professional could have done it much better than me, but even I really don’t think someone would notice the repaired areas.
I think that looks damn good! Of course, the use of flat color helped. If you want to hide imperfection, flat color is the right way.
Here is a memory of what the ceiling looked like a few days ago …
And here it’s done …
I’m not a drywall professional, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out.
I should mention that it looks like the room is now a little darker with the darker blanket, but I don’t think it’s so. I had turned the brightness on the lights because it hurt my eyes to work on the ceiling, with the lights being displayed on full brightness. I forgot to turn them up all the way before I took the pictures this morning. With them the room is still very bright.
So the big project is complete! New lighting … check. Repaired ceiling … check. Check the primated and painted ceiling. Cabinet rods installed … 3/4 of a check.
This is a pretty blanket when I say it myself.
Now the challenge is to see whether I can get this room, the foyer and the bedroom to bed until bedtime. If I can, I will be home tomorrow morning to rent the Sanders for the ground. However, I will not emphasize about it. I will try my best, but if I just can’t make it, I will end the cleanup tomorrow and then rent the Sanders first on Friday morning. But in any case, these floors are grinding. I am so excited to get this dark spot from the floors and see what these rooms will look like with light, bright floors!
