How to use Chat GPT for decorating and landscaping ideas

The most important thing first. To answer the question that most of them have, I was already in Home Depot this morning (I left the house at 6:30 a.m.) to rent the Sanders to grind the floors in our bedroom suite today. Woohoo! But I wanted to share some fun with them that I have played around in the past few days, and that uses Chat GPT for decorating and landscaping ideas. I’m definitely not a professional, but when I posted an AI-generated photo of a landscape design that Chat GPT asked two days ago on my Facebook page on my Facebook page, several people asked how I did it. For those among them who have never tried it, I thought I would share a funny little procedure about the process. And maybe those among them who used it for decoration and/or landscape design can offer some suggestions to achieve better and more precise results.

You can use the free version of chat GPT. Just go to chatgpt.com and set up a free account. Just note that the number of images you can generate in 24-hour times gives a limit for the number of images if you use the free version. I think the border is five pictures. In order to achieve the greatest payout for these five pictures, you would like to be so explicitly and detailed in your input requests. In addition, there are probably millions of people who try to generate pictures at all times, so it takes a few minutes for a picture to be generated. In today’s world it is a bit of patience in which we get nervous when we don’t get any search results or answers to our questions in less than a second.

As soon as you have set up your free account, you can upload a picture of the room or the area (front garden, garden, etc.) with which you want to work. In the text field, click on the “+” symbol on the left …

And then you can upload an image from your computer or phone.

As soon as the photo is uploaded, you can say exactly what you want to do with the picture. Only one warning, the AI is anything but perfect and the more explicitly and more detailed you can receive with your requests, the better the results.

For my first attempt I uploaded a picture from the front of our house that I took last year after we poured the driveway.

And in the text field this is the prompt that I wrote:

Create image: Can you give me landscape ideas for this house? I want a traditional look with lighting, annual flowers, multi -year green, etc.

This is the picture that gave me it. You can see that I had to be much more detailed in my request. It turned our entrance into a sidewalk to the front door. And it gave me a whole new house. If it were just so easy.

As soon as it generates an image, you can click on the picture or tap it to make it bigger, and this text field will be below, where it says: “Describe what you add, remove or replace …” (Super -Super -border note: The lack of an oxford comma in this instructions really irritates me.

I entered this prompt …

I like this, but the concrete is a driveway, not a front sidewalk. Hold the house as well as the original image and add the landscape design around the original house and the driveway.

And with that it generated this picture. I still had a new house, but at least the driveway is now in the right place. However, this is a really narrow driveway. Maybe it’s for a golf car. But this is actually a useful picture that I could use for inspiration.

Next, I decided to see what it would do with an original photo of our living room, so I uploaded this photo of our living room to the day we closed our house.

And then I gave this request:

Create a picture of this room to show me how it would look completely newly decorated. I don’t want any of the original surfaces – wall paint, floor coverings or curtains. I want new hardwood floors, smooth drying wall on the ceiling and new windows at the exact position of the original window. I want the traditional style to be decorated with a touch of modern accents such as lighting and accent furniture. I like to decorate with color, so no boring neutral rooms. My favorite color is dark blue -green, but I also like bright blue -green and pink. I also like small accents of orange and green.

And it generated this picture with one of the missing windows:

So I followed the following prompt:

This is a very good start. Stay with these colors, add the second window on the left wall, which is in the original picture. I would also like to add a fireplace between the two windows on the left wall in the original image (which the main wall in the picture you have just created). I would also like to have a more interesting ceiling light like a ceiling light inspired by Sputnik. I would also like to add all the windows with golden or brass curves and wrestling with gold windows and wrestling curtains with a pinch.

And it existed me.

I really love this room! But you can find that it didn’t understand where I wanted the window. It put it on the left wall in the photo that it created, instead of the left wall from the original photo that I uploaded. I should have been much more explicit in my instructions and should only refer to the picture he created. So I followed …

Very nice, but put the second window to the right of the fireplace and remove the window from the left wall. Place the flower image over the fireplace coat. I also want a larger rectangle couch table.

Here I learned that you actually have to say exactly what you want to keep, because instead of just changing the items I mentioned and keeping the rest, it also changed other things that I really wanted and that I wanted to keep. And I just couldn’t get rid of this window on the left wall. But overall I really like it! And with a few changes, this could definitely be used as an inspiration for decorating my living room. However, I liked these green curtains very much from the previous picture. I also liked the window cladding, the crown shape and the basebar, which were painted in the same color as the walls.

And finally I decided to try another room. This time I uploaded this picture of what will soon be our bedroom …

This is the request that I wrote:

Create image: I would like to transform this room into a bedroom with the following objects: A Queen -Size bed with a high, padded headboard fits the wall between the two windows. On both sides of the bed in front of the windows, I would like a bedside table with drawers in a light color and a table lamp on every bedside table. Under the bed I would like a large 9 ‘x 12’ area carpet. On the underside of 32 inches of the walls, I would like white wainscoting with a color or a wallpaper over the wainscoting. I would like to science on all three windows on golden curtain rods and curtain rings.

And it existed me. Yikes. I should have been much more detailed in my request.

So I followed the following prompt:

Keep the white wainscoting. Make the walls over the Wainscoting Deal Gras Cloth Wallpaper. Make the curtains with a three-inch orange and white patterned accent cladding on the front of all curtains. Make the table lamps orange with white colors. Use a more traditional carpet with orange, blue -green and green. Keep the head part size, but make it a curved padded headboard with a coordinating patterned fabric. Make three window shadows the tan -colored wooden tones. Keep the floor color the same color. Keep the curtain rods and wrestle the same color. Add white crown formulas.

And it created this picture …

Now I have come somewhere, but that’s a lot of suitable flowers and it is not even a pretty flowers. And this carpet is very dark and heavy. So I went to Amazon and made a screenshot of the carpet, which I will actually use in the room, copied the screenshot (Ctrl+C on a PC) and I inserted it into the text field and added this entry request:

And that was me …

I mean … yikes. It added the carpet, but it also changed many things that I wanted to keep. Look at all the right flowers! There was a day when this was very popular, but this day is not in 2025. Here, too, you have to be very explicitly in your requests. Tell it exactly what you want to hold from the previous picture, or say that you only want to change one thing.

So I followed the following prompt:

Keep the area carpet, floors, blue -green walls, wainscoting, window tones, crown shape, ceiling fan, orange pillow and table lamps exactly the same.
Replace the curtains with massive dark blue -green velvet curtains with orange and white 3 -inch trim on the front edge of any curtains.
Replace the head compartment with a creamy white background and a pattern of orange -colored and coral birds and trees with green and bright blue -green leaves.
Replace the flower bed pillows with pillows in a coordinating striped fabric.
Replace the floral comfort with a massive cream -white fabric.
Add a throw to the foot of the bed in a coordinating pattern of blue -green, orange, corals and creamy white.
Make the bedside tables wider, at least 30 inches wide.

That was much better. However, it still didn’t change the tables.

So I tried again with this prompt:

And it gave me that. They are still too tight, but better. And somehow I lost the tip on the front edge of one of the curtains panel.

However, it is fun to play around with it, and you can generate up to five pictures in one day in a free account. In order to achieve the greatest payout in these five pictures, you must be as detailed as possible in your input requests. And for some reason, it just never wants to generate a picture from the same perspective as the original image that I uploaded, even if I say it. However, this is not a big deal. It is still fun to play around with it, and it’s nice that you can copy and insert pictures of exact elements that you want to use in the room. It is a nice tool so that you can see whether your design ideas work before spending a lot of money on the actual space.

The pictures often have a very flat, sterile, almost hotel -like atmosphere. They are too perfect. A real space would have much more “life” because it is not a better word. But it is still a useful tool and it is an entertaining way to get ideas or test ideas that you already have. I think I will use it a lot more from here.

Well, that’s enough of chat GPT for the day. I will spend the rest of my day grinding the floors in our bedroom suite. I hope I can let everything ground today and let the Sanders return until Home Depot closes this evening at 10:00 p.m. I’ll meet you here tomorrow morning and show you progress!
