My closet island and a battle of Wills (Mama against daughter)

As I mentioned on Tuesday, I have a friend in the city this week, so I have not focused on working in the past few days. But that didn’t stop me from thinking about my projects, and it didn’t stop us from talking about the options. And my mother and I came into a (very friendly) battle of Wills for my walk -in wardrobe island.

When I said I wanted to paint it an accent color, most of them knew that the color I wanted was pink. But I didn’t know which pink. And the only pink I had at hand was a very dark red pink. But that’s the one I just tried to see what a pink (or pink) island would look like in the room. For the recording, I know for sure that this is not the one I would choose, so I am not looking for an input for this special color.

But this color gave me at least an idea of what an accent color on the island would look like. And I love the idea! So I returned to this post in which I shared different colors that I pulled out of the wallpaper and tried it on the island, and decided that this is that I liked the most.

But I also love the white worktop in this model. So I decided that, regardless of the color I paint the base, I definitely have a white top again. I like the lightness and brightness that expands it to the room.

That brings me back to the basic color. I love the pink, but my mother hates it. Now those among them know who have been for a while that my mother has a very artistic eye. She Is An artist, and while she and I have very different decorative styles, I trust her artistic eye. And because I know that she has an artistic eye and I trust that she understands scaling, balance, etc., I tend to listen when it gives me input. That doesn’t mean that I have my house decorated. But I appreciate your opinion and give your opinions and give my decisions a certain weight.

But they definitely do not agree on this island. When I say that she hates the idea of a pink island, I mean that she is vehemently opposed To a pink island. Don’t worry … We laugh and have a good time when we talk about it. And she knows that it is my house and I will make my own decision, but she hates the idea of a pink island.

So when my mother, my girlfriend Lori and I talked about the island color, my mother happened to say: “I think they should only paint them in stripes with many colors that were pulled out of the wallpaper.”

What? Strip? I mean, I love stripes. Flowers and strips are my favorites. I would rely on everything if I could get through with it! But I totally thought she was fun. I thought she made fun of me and my love for many, many colors.

But she didn’t joke. Your thought is that when I paint the island in a solid accent color, the island and not the wallpaper what the eye attracts. It becomes the focus. It is basically the only thing people see when they look into the room. But when I paint these end panels in strips with many colors from the wallpaper, the two complement each other and keep the wallpaper as a focal point.

I should have made her mock her idea because (1) only you can see what is in her mind, (2) She is much better in Photoshop than me and (3) This is her idea. We didn’t even talk about the details. Would the stripes all be the same width or random width? Would you be arranged in an ombre order or just an order? We didn’t even get that far in our discussion.

So I have no idea whether she actually imagines it, but I made a small model of strip last night after leaving my house. Don’t be fixed to these exact colors. If I moved this idea forward, I would take the background image and actually match the actual wallpaper. This is just a very quick idea to demonstrate The general idea From stripes.

If I turn the ends in this panele, I can imagine that the rest of the island is dark blue from the background of the wallpaper. Any other color would be wrong for my eye. All of these colors need a dark frame to earth.

I resisted the idea of making dark blue on the island, not because I don’t like it. I actually love it and when I did the models, it was one of my favorites.

But my problem with the dark blue is that I didn’t want the dark blue to be so close to the door because there are dark, blue -wide grass loop outside of this room on the foyer walls. But I got the role roll and put it against the closet wallpaper and the dryer.

It doesn’t look bad! I mean, I don’t want a big dark blue that comes close to the grass clake. In other words, I don’t want to paint the island a massive dark blue. But when I strip on this end panels, the dark blue is only on the frame around the stripes. I can live with it.

So we are here. A battle of will. Mother vs. daughter. Fixed pink against dark blue with stripes (or maybe another pattern in similar colors) on the end panels.

Who will win? I am not sure at this point. To be honest, since we talk about stripes, I somehow think that I will win one way or another. But stripes are not even a thing that I had taken into account until yesterday when she spoke to it. I think it’s a fascinating idea, but it is a completely different look than what I had imagined all the time.

The only thing I know at this point is that the island is not light blue. I just can’t make light blue here. I need color, variation and something else on the island.

My girlfriend goes this afternoon and I will go back to work after leaving. Hopefully we know by Monday who won this (very friendly) battle of Wills.
