Small progress and window treatment options

Do you ever have these days when you have not planned or needed anything from you that dividing your attention from your hand? They wake up on this day and think of themselves. “This will be such a productive day! I will do so much today!“And then at the end of the day, ask yourself”What happened to the hell? How did I get so little today?

Yes. That was my day yesterday. I had what I would be for a complete, uninterrupted working day. I only knew that yesterday I would do so much in the closet, and at the end of the day I stood in this room, laughed at the absurdities of the day and thought to me. “Seriously?! This is it? Is that all that I have to show for this day?

I knew it would be a rough when Matt was awake at 6:00 a.m. when I got up. I generally wake up at 6:00 a.m. and start my day very quietly, sneak up to my desk and have about an hour of complete calm and loneliness before I wake it up at 7:00 a.m. But yesterday morning he was already awake and had a terrible morning. Pooh. Not a good start to a Monday. So I had to spend a lot of time more than usual, which took care of him yesterday. (If you are new here, Matt is my husband and he has MS, he has good days, bad days and some very Bad days were scattered. Yesterday was one very bad day.)

So I only started working much later than usual. I was so excited to try the Faux -Marmor worktops for the washing and dryer cabinets, so I wanted to spend my day with it. I wasted time with the Home Depot and bought the required plywood and the needs and then found that I had come far in front of me. I really had to install the cladding on the walls with wallpaper before I was shining with the worktops. In my excitement about the worktops, I forgot that I kneel and have to stand on these worktops to install the crown shape in these areas.

So I put the worktop plan into the queue and started cutting the crown shape. I had the long piece of crown shape cut for the long wall, tried to install it and realized very quickly that there was no way to get the piece of crown shape (137 inches long) past the cabinets. I tried everything I could imagine, and every perspective to get past the cupboards and nothing worked. So I had to cut so long, beautiful, complete crown shape into two pieces. I was so amazed to put a cut in the crown shape, but there was no other way.

But I used my miter saw to cut a lot of metal articles (such as the metal cabinet rods) lately, and the blade on my miter saw was shot. The cutting of wooden shapes with this blade was roughly the equivalent to chop it off with a chainsaw and get perfect cuts. Before I put this cut in my perfect piece of shapes, I had to change the blade. And of course I couldn’t pick up the screws from the saw. Of course it couldn’t just be a simple change. Yesterday wasn’t the day for easy. It was as if these screws were welded. It took me about 45 minutes to do a task that should take about 5 minutes. But I finally made it.

Then I went to nail the crown formula in place, and my air compressor worked on. I have known for a few weeks that it was probably on the last leg. It had started to do a metallic rattling noise when I turned it on, but I thought it could at least bring me through this cabinet project. But it decided yesterday when I was on the ladder and the long piece of crown shape with a hand and my nail gun held in the other hand that this was the moment when it was done.

So I had to make a trip to the Home Depot to pick up this new Little Pancake Porter Cable Air compressor. The timing was not ideal, but I have to admit, I love to buy every excuse to buy new tools. Just see how pretty and shiny it is! However, this will not take long.

I love this little pancake air compressor, and if you are after a small and portable, but powerful enough to do almost every job that a DIYER wants to do, I recommend it. This old man took me for many, for many years and brought me through every project that I have carried out in this house so far, of windows and doors to build furniture and everything in between.

So when I was back with my new air compressor, I was finally able to have the cladding installed. I got the upper (compiled) crown shape, the window cladding reinstalled and the baseboard in place.

I don’t know if you can see where I had to put the crown forming together. It is about 16 inches to the left of the corner.

When putting the cladding together, I always cut a 45-degree angle instead of cutting the two parts with a straight cut. I think this 45-degree angle helps to hide the joint much better. And of course I have to make some wood filling and grinding on this joint. I think it will be pretty much disappearing when it’s done, but it still frustrates me that I had to do that at all.

When I cut and installed all these parts, it was already after 8:00 a.m. And I don’t like to use my power tools outside after 8:00 p.m. So that’s it. I had to call it a day. I filled all wooden holes so that I can grind them today. I still have to cut and install the crown shape point for the side walls and the ends of the cupboards. Then I have to boil a little and then I can paint.

The entire cladding on this wall is painted in the same color as the cupboards. This will be the only room in the house in which no white pulling, but I think the blue will be much better. If you only see this white (primed) cladding on this wall out of place.

Anyway, I share all of this with them so as not to complain about my day, but mainly to bring a little of the reality of the world of DIY. A few days are so productive. Others are a comedy of the error from start to finish. And last night I was only able to step back, look at my little progress, laugh at the absurdities of the day and hope for a better day today. So far, so good. Matt woke up great this morning, so we have a much better start!

I had to think about this window on a different topic than I left last night to admire my little progress.

I originally planned to put on the window shadow, and I could still do that. I obviously need privacy because this is a closet and I will get dressed here. The window can be seen in the street and I don’t really want to organize a show for my neighbors and passers -by every day. So my original plan was to put on the shadow again, to reduce it in such a way that the upper part of the window is covered by the shadow, and then put the data protection window into the lower part. In this way, a natural light can still come into the room.

But the shadow I have is dark and it really doesn’t go into the room. Or? Here is a memory of the color …

I spent a lot of money on this color (it is suitable for the window with blackout feed and size), so I really don’t want to buy any other felzing color for the window. I had thought about bl have with wood bleach. That could be an interesting experiment. I really don’t think it has to agree The floor, but I want it to be a little easier than now.

But even when I stepped down and looked at this wall last night with the cladding, I thought it could be nice to omit it completely and use window films throughout the window. So I’m not sure. You can tell me what you think. Should I use the shadow? Are you trying to bleach? Completely skip? I think I could add the window film to the lower half, try to bleach the shadow, put it up again and see what it looks like. If the bleach does not work, I can let go and add the window film upwards.

I don’t know why, but the window film exactly in the lower part of the window and the shadow at the top feels safe for me. I don’t worry that people are able to be able to. But if I don’t have a shadow in the window at all, and the window film on the entire window cannot be sure that people cannot see. I know that that makes no sense at all. If it works in the lower half, it also works in the upper half. But it’s just something to have a window without a shadow – a window that is facing the street – that feels vulnerable. But I also think that it would look really pretty to let go of the shadow of the window completely and simply leave the blue trim and wallpaper at the front and in the middle. What do you think about the matter?
